April showers DO bring May flowers… have you seen the roses in the Belmont garden? Wow… come take a stroll....

Summer is almost here and I am so ready for flip-flops, board shorts, patios, and pool parties.  This summer will be one for the books here at the Belmont; with our new and exciting events.

We are revamping our B-Reel movie program to include films from local artists.  We are partnering with our friends at Reel FX and the Dallas Observer to make our pool movie nights more artsy and more interesting ... the John Lewis Band performs every other Thursday on the BarBelmont patio, with Cuban Jazz Project on alternate Thursdays… a new Art with a View opening reception on May 9 features nine artists from the PanAmerican ArtProject.

With such great weather rolling in, every day is a patio party at the Belmont.  Don't miss happy hour from 5-7 PM, Sunday thru Friday.

Take advantage of our Spring Fling Package where your third night is on us! It’s a perfect way to spend the long Memorial Day weekend… I'll be at the Guadalupe River, but have fun without me!"

Once tagged "rock's boy genius" by the music press, Conor Oberst turned 27 on February 15th and even without that in mind it's hard to listen to Cassadaga without hearing a newfound sophistication to the Bright Eyes sound.  Oberst, the fumbling guitarist whose impassioned prose tumbles out under stark stage spotlights, is still recognizable in every track, but the songs are rich with elaborate production, cinema-sized orchestration and, at times, sprawling, almost psychedelic, atmospherics.

Jello Biafra is one of the country's most outspoken supporters of free speech and freedom (constitutional or otherwise.) He has released four albums of material recorded during the spoken word tours that carry him across the country. Each of these contains a great deal of legal and social information that he has compiled from various sources over the years. The scope and quality of the information is sure to shock even those who thought they were well informed on subjects they've heard about.  With an abrasive voice and a sarcastic and cynical mind, he speaks his opinions based on facts which are irrefutable. Like the late Frank Zappa, he is one of those distinct individuals who is willing to go to up against the government to fight for those rights that they seem to think of as out of date and disposable.

More Info

Meadows Museum
5900 Bishop Blvd
Dallas, TX   75275
214.768.2516

The Meadows Museum, in association with the Texas Fashion Collection at the University of North Texas, presents an exhibition that highlights the phenomenal legacy of 20th-century master fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga. The exhibition will present more than 70 of his creations, along with some 20 dresses and accessories by other famous designers whom this Spanish icon inspired and mentored such as Oscar de la Renta, Emanuel Ungaro, Hubert de Givenchy, and André Courrèges. The majority of designs featured in this exhibition draw from the vast holdings of one of the world's finest and yet least-known fashion collections: the Texas Fashion Collection in Denton, Texas. Its archive reveals the refined and cosmopolitan taste of some of Texas' most prominent individuals, both during and after Balenciaga's lifetime. This groundbreaking exhibition will introduce the public to the creative genius of Balenciaga and demonstrate the extraordinary mark he left on future generations of fellow haute couture designers and their strong connections with Texas.

Petruchio has recently arrived in Padua looking for a wife. Determined to win the hand of the feisty young heiress Katherina, he sees in her wild spirit a formidable challenge to his masculinity. A riotous and often tender tale full of outlandish characters, sparkling repartee and bawdy humor, The Taming of the Shrew is Shakespeare’s most rollicking comedy, one of the funniest plays ever written about the battle of the sexes.

Two mid-life New Yorkers (as mismatched in roommate life as they had been in their marriages) inspired Neil Simon to create America's favorite theatre couple. His play inspired a great television show. It's easy to forget, because of the beloved TV series about the underdogs, is just how excruciatingly funny and on-target the original play is and how fresh its situation and one-liners are for any generation of actors to get to perform. And for audiences to rediscover!
