March is here and that brings some exciting happenings to The Belmont and Dallas. You won't want to miss the 27th Annual Greenville Avenue St Patrick's Day Parade and Party on Saturday the 17th… lots of floats and plenty of Guinness. Following the parade, one of my favorite bands, The Toadies, will be performing at the corner of Yale and Greenville. They are great!
This month also brings us closer to the opening of the Cliff Café, the new restaurant coming to the Belmont. You’re going to love the menu Chef Doug Brown (of Amuse and Beyond the Box fame) is putting together… part café, part diner, part bistro. We are all very excited about Cliff, which is slated to open early summer.
While you wait for Cliff Café to open, I recommend 2900 in the State-Thomas neighborhood, my favorite choice for "modern soul food." Their cozy dining room features a large window looking in to the kitchen where you can watch Chef Mike Smith create incredible dishes such as his signature manchego-stuffed beef tenderloin served with chorizo cheese grits and cilantro cream sauce or pan-seared Hudson Valley foie gras; black-eyed peas and apple smoked bacon, blackberry balsamic syrup. Yum. Great wine list too.
I'll leave you with a couple St. Paddy's concoctions from the bar to stoke your inner Leprechaun…
Irish Car Bomb
¾ Pint of Guinness
¾ oz Jameson Irish Whiskey
¾ oz Bailey's Irish Cream
Pour the Jameson and Baileys into a shot glass and the Guinness into a Pint glass. Drop the shot into the pint glass and chug away. Does it
get any more Irish?
Irish Coffee
1 ½ oz Jameson Irish Whiskey
6 oz hot coffee
1 tsp brown sugar
3 tbsp Fresh whipped Cream
Pour the Whiskey, coffee, and brown sugar into a mug, stir to mix. Top with whipped cream. Enjoy.
'Beannachtam na Feile Padrain!'... Happy St. Patrick's Day,
Kevin Dunn

A modern masterpiece by one of America's finest contemporary playwrights, Fences is the best of August Wilson's epic cycle of plays chronicling the African-American experience in the 20th century. Wilson zeroes in on Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro Baseball Leagues who is coming to terms with his own lost dreams while struggling to hold onto his pride and keep his family together. Lauren Greenfield, preeminent chronicler of youth culture in the photography world, offers a portrayal of profound insight and understanding to reveal the hidden nature of eating disorders. The exhibition weaves together large-scale portraits and documentary photographs; recorded voices, videos and narrative texts. Now through May 28, 2007
Dallas Museum of Nature and Science, Fair Park
http://www.scienceplace.org/
Throughout the ages, medical scholars and students have strived to understand how our bodies function through exploration of real human specimens. BODY WORLDS, the most highly attended touring exhibition in the world, takes this tradition one step further by presenting a new look at the human body.
The exhibition features approximately 200 authentic human specimens, including whole bodies, plastinated individual organs and transparent body slices that have been preserved through the process of Plastination, a technique that replaces bodily fluids and fat with reactive plastics. BODY WORLDS offers a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see and understand our own physiology and health and to gain new appreciation and respect for what it means to be human.
