Jared Sez At the Belmont In the Neighborhood

Andrea Sez

I was born in Dallas, raised in Austin, and have lived in New York, Chicago and San Francisco. Growing up, I loved music and dancing and thought for sure that I would be a Solid Gold dancer. Alas, that show was off the air before I was able to see my dream come to life. Two years ago Liz Lambert gave me the opportunity to become the General Manager of the Hotel San Jose in Austin, Texas. There, under her mentorship, I have been able to hone my passion for the service industry and the most important aspect of hospitality; people.

I am and have been many things in my life; a traveler, an accidental grocer, a designer, business owner and now in charge of the evolutionary process of the Belmont Hotel in Dallas. The Belmont Hotel is the newest on board with Bunkhouse Management and I couldn’t be more excited!  Yes, this is breaking news and more will come later.

I have the luxury of living on property while this transition takes place. I feel this is the best and most accurate way to experience our customer’s perspective. I am a true believer in doing what is right for our employees, our guests, our communities and ourselves.  I am honored to facilitate this thinking at the Belmont. I am lucky to have a calling and to be the newest General Manager (and resident) at the Belmont Hotel.

BELMONT HEALTH CLUB
2001 Sylvan Avenue
Dallas, TX 75208

What can we learn from the oldest people on earth?

BlueZones.com gives some interesting insight.  Researchers have now studied 5 cultures with the most number of centenarians.  Here are some things we can learn from the habits of 100 year olds:

  1. The 80% rule-stop eating when you are 80% full.
  2. Eat more vegetables and less processed food.
  3. Define and cultivate a life purpose which adds meaning to your days.
  4. Value spiritual or religious participation.
  5. Work less, slow down, rest and take vacations.
  6. Find ways to move every day.  Do things you love like gardening, walking or playing.  Make moving an integral and inescapable part of your life.
  7. Create a healthy social network and cultivate a sense of belonging.
  8. Make your family a priority.  Build a community if you don't have family.
  9. And (subject to much controversy and not for everyone), reduce protein intake and drink red wine with consistency and moderation.

Are these easy?  In our culture, they are not.  But we can rediscover those things which add to the quantity of our years and the quality of our life.

Belmont Health Club is offered as an amenity to hotel guests.  Just go to the front desk and they’ll walk you thru gaining access.  The health club also offers memberships to the community.
