It's hard to tell September from summer in Dallas with this unrelenting heat. But there's far too much happening this month to think that "the lazy days of summer" could possibly last….

The excitement mounts as the Cliff Cafe prepares to open its doors…

At last, Cliff Cafe is moments away from opening its doors. As I watch all the craftsmen put the finishing touches on this historic building, its fresh, new interior and state-of-the-art kitchen, I feel a part of a continuing circle begun 60 years ago… a new glossy new beginning for an old friend at the Belmont. I am so proud to be a part of this great new modern diner in Oak Cliff. And I'm equally excited for the opportunity to work with the Belmont staff, new and old.

I love to cook and eat. Food is in my blood, the creativity and pleasuring the senses. Making people happy through food, that's my goal. We've created a great menu and wonderful atmosphere, so please drop by and enjoy "real good food at the Belmont Hotel." We'll keep you posted as we open the doors for business.

BELMONT HEALTH CLUB "20 x 3" CHALLENGE

The single greatest contribution you can make to your well being is to move from little or no physical activity to regular physical activity. Your heart, lungs and overall health will thank you. You can beat the statistics!

Set a realistic goal that is attainable, and then build on a platform of success rather than failure. The "20 X 3 Challenge" proposes that you begin twenty minutes of cardiovascular activity three times a week. The simplest way to start is to put on walking shoes. Walk briskly from your home or office ten minutes in any direction… then walk back, accomplishing your goal for the day. Do this three times a week and you are a success. Miss a day? You still have days to meet your goal.

Added benefit for the community: getting to know your neighbors. Dallas, get moving!

Questions? Email healthclub@belmontdallas.com… or call Chris (214 734-8204) or Daryl (817 821-6424) to set up a consultation and tour.

The Twilight of the Golds
September 28 – October 21, 2007
by Jonathan Tolins
Directed by - Doug Miller

If your parents knew everything about you before you were born, would you be here? That is the question posed in this topical drama. All is well when Suzanne Gold and her close New York family discover that she is pregnant, until a prenatal test reveals that the baby will most likely be homosexual. The news forces the entire Gold family to confront issues of bigotry, evolution and the limits of love. Critically acclaimed Off-Broadway, Twilight of the Golds is a powerful human drama with plenty of humor and warmth. Presented by the Uptown Players, and featuring the theatrical talents of the Belmont's own, Clayton Farris.

The Ladies of the Camellias
September 14 thru October 6, 2007
See website for additional special performances.

Join Echo Theatre as it continues its 10th Anniversary Celebration Sept. 14-Oct. 6, 2007 with THE LADIES OF THE CAMELLIAS by Lillian Groag, a hilarious love letter to the theater centering on an imagined meeting between famous divas Sarah Bernhardt and Eleonora Duse. An insightful examination of art, politics, and what it means to act is cleverly woven into the farcical collision of towering egos, monstrous talents, and fanatical political ideals. Rapier wits (as well as actual rapiers!) are employed as these marvelous creatures of the theatre confront true anarchy and an even more terrifying specter: the impending arrival of the director!

Reckless Kelly
plus Macon Greyson

Fri, Sept 21, 2007, 9 pm

This is country-rock that shakes the rafters and then lets the dust settle with soothing slide guitar. When the mandolin joins in, just try and keep that lump in the throat from pouncing out. It doesn't matter whether there's a steady stream of fermented hops and barley flowing your way; the music does the talking around here.

Topaz
plus Jones Band

Sat, Sept 22, 2007, 9 pm

Born and raised in the Texas hill country, Topaz McGarrigle got his start playing saxophone on the streets of downtown Austin as a youngster. It was in New York that Topaz signed his first record deal and began touring nationally, where his musical identity began to take shape in the muscular twists and turns of his phrasing, cool, soulful feeling and grooving rhythmic energy. He has performed with Norah Jones, The Wailers, Widespread Panic, Robert Randolph and many others. Recently Topaz returned to Austin TX his band includes Bob Perkins (bass), Schniz (drums) and special guests..

Dumpstaphunk
plus Snarky Puppy

Thur, Sept 27, 2007, 8 pm

Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk is a group of musicologists that transcend age and styles in a free-flowing approach to their art. Dumpstaphunk weaves a vocal and musical tapestry from key members of Dave Matthews & Friends, Trey Anastaio, Jewel and the Neville musical families. The band's music incorporates drops of Sly and the Family Stone and Meter-esque jams as well as other diverse influences into a spicy musical gumbo.

Billy Joe Shaver
plus Jackson Taylor

Sat, Sept 29, 2007, 8 pm

As a living lightning rod for the blues, Billy Joe Shaver is one rough 'n' rowdy Texan who's experienced more than enough joy and pain in his sixty-three years to ever have to go begging for material.

Like Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie, and Jimmie Rodgers, Billy Joe has lived the songs he sings--when it's about love, he's embraced it; when it's about grief, he's writhed in it; and when it's about screwing-up, well, Lord knows he's done it. When Shaver kicks his to-the-bone tales back our way, they smack of irrefutable truth--a truth that's delivered with simple, poetic grace.

PLACE: Hollywood. TIME: Academy Award Night. CHARACTERS: A vain auteur of voguishly violent films, his ex, his sardonic daughter, his on-the-make date, murderers inspired by his movie, and a voyeuristic TV crew. Elton's award-winning comedy has vulgar vigor and smart-mouthed one-liners, but surprisingly has the moral purpose of a Jacobean revenge drama. (Rated VERY Adult).

Blind Date
August 17 through September 2, 2007
By Marlo Diament

An anxious adulterer alights in a confessional mood on the blind man's favorite Buenos Aires park bench. From that chance meeting the blind man, a distinguished poet, sees deeply not only into the life of others, but deeply into his own life and its still-astonishing possibilities.
