Jared Sez At the Belmont In the Neighborhood

The holidays are upon us. Bring on the turkeys and let the festivities begin...

Jared Sez

Jared

It is officially fall and that means the start of great weather, great clothes, and all that that entails...

Fall is time for football to get down and dirty, which is the reason this is my favorite time of the year. And, it's almost holiday season, which means spending lots of time with friends and family... and trying to dodge the "extended" relatives. I can't wait to spend Thanksgiving watching football, cheering for the Broncos, and fighting over the wishbone. Then I'll head over to the BarBelmont, make you an Irish Coffee to warm you up, gloat over your team losing to mine, and provide you a safe harbor to escape your relatives. I love the fall!

At the Belmont

Cliff Cafe

REAL GOOD FOOD... AND PARTIES... AT THE BELMONT HOTEL

Business has been brisk at the Cliff Cafe, Oak Cliff's new casual neighborhood diner at the Belmont. The Cliff now serves three meals a day, seven days a week, including all day breakfast and weekend brunch.

With the holidays merely weeks away, time is running short to plan the perfect holiday gathering at the Belmont. The Belmont's Catering and Event Planning Staff can help you orchestrate a memorable event. Whether you want to take advantage of our spectacular Texas fall weather for a poolside gathering, or host a more intimate luncheon in the event room at Cliff, the Belmont's hip, casual atmosphere may just be the perfect venue for your entertaining needs.

BELMONT HEALTH CLUB

People greatly overestimate what they can accomplish in a short amount of time. People greatly underestimate what they can accomplish in the long term.
–Brian Buffini

Do Less Damage This Year. Here is a worthy goal to set: I will do less damage to my body this holiday season. Now translate this into specific and doable steps. Some ideas:

  1. I'm going to start my fitness program now, before the holidays. I'm going to begin burning more calories now and not wait until January.
  2. I'm going to walk 20 minutes 3 times a week.
  3. I'm going to park at the end of the parking lot and walk to my shopping. Added benefits: fewer dings in my car and less frustration looking for a parking space.
  4. I am going to have a snack before I go to parties so I won't be ravenous.
  5. I am going to focus on people, not food at parties. I'm going to meet a new person and find out something interesting about them.
  6. I will not skip breakfast or lunch on feast days. This will keep me from concentrating all my calories in one meal.
  7. I will first fill my plate with things less bad for me: nuts or raw vegetables, lean turkey or ham, salads or vegetables.
  8. I will enjoy the treats that are most special to me in moderation. I will skip the filler food that I don't care that much about.
  9. Rather than concentrating all my favorite foods on one day, I will spread out the special dishes over several days or weeks.
  10. I'll take a midday walk on holidays to relieve stress and burn calories.

My goal for the holidays: do less damage.

Art With A View is an ongoing series of rotating art and creative events at the Belmont.

The Belmont is pleased to host #6IMAGES, the Dallas Portfolio Exchange's sixth annual exhibition of selected photographers. The collection of fine art prints is a compilation of 12 Dallas commercial photographers, who were given creative carte blanche to capture what they feel passionate about. In an effort to inspire themselves, they hope to inspire others. This year the twelve contributing photographers are: Kent Barker, Stewart Choen, Richard Doherty, Max Helfman, Scott Jenke, David Lyles, Nancy Newberry, Kenda North, Eric Pearle, Danny Piassick, Matthew Savins and Greg Stephens.

Founder and organizer, David Lyles, also a photographer, conceived the Exchange in 2001. "Over the last six years I've had the great fortune to exchange fine art prints with commercial photographers. These are people who I have admired through ads and editorials, in all sorts of publications, nationally and globally. It as been my great pleasure to collect the photographs captured by this talented group."

The opening reception for #6IMAGES will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2007, from 6 to 9 pm in the BarBelmont Lounge and Terrace. The collection will remain on exhibition at the Belmont through December 2, 2007.

For more information about The Dallas Portfolio Exchange contact David Lyles at 214.635.1555.

Pygmalion

Pygmalion
by George Bernard Shaw
Through November 25, 2007

George Bernard Sahw's most illustrious and illuminating comedy...
Here's a 1913 classic stage play that became a classic movie, which in turn became both the classic stage musical and movie musical, My Fair Lady. Now the great play returns to Theatre Three's stage in Shaw's original form. Few plays in the English language contain such intellectual and comic inventions – all so Shaw could argue for nothing less than the perfection of civilization.
