Summer's here and it’s time to cook out, spend the day by the pool, and enjoy the sun. I love living and working in The Cliff. We grill a lot of meals in the backyard, hang with the neighbors and play with the dog. For a chillin’ treat I head down to Pappa Danny's Place in the Bishop Arts for a double dip, just as the day fades into a beautiful summer evening. Life is good.
And speaking of the good life, I am looking forward to spending lots of time on the BarBelmont patio this summer. And of course no summer is kicked off completely until you spend at least one weekend down at the lake. Lake fun in Texas is what it's all about… I'll be heading to Cedar Creek of course.
Have a great summer… I know I will.

Sat, June 23, 2007, 8 PM
Granada Theatre
3524 Greenville Ave.
214.824.9933
Dallas symphonic pop group The Polyphonic Spree is less a band than a happening, in the 1960s sense of the word. When the group takes to the stage for a live performance, its two dozen members are costumed in flowing robes, an appropriate backdrop for their happy and uplifting musical message that's catchy pop minimally laced by gospel. Fans have compared them to both the Flaming Lips and the Beach Boys, with a smidgen of lively Godspell-like attitude thrown into the mix. |

Exciting, complex, sometimes surreal and always theatrical, this musical story enters the world of a black maid working for a well-to-do Louisiana family. On the national stage, the era of civil rights is playing out: Dr. King, freedom rides, Supreme Court debates, and church bombings. But underdog Caroline is playing out the right and wrong of all that in the laundry room of the nice people she works for. The young son of the family, estranged from his new stepmother, relies on her. Can Caroline square her dreams with the boy's as her own life changes with the times? A superb musical score floods the stage with all the passion of those momentous times in this great new musical. |

Exhibit extended through June 17, 2007
Meadows Museum
5900 Bishop Blvd
Dallas, TX 75275
214.768.2516
The Meadows Museum, in association with the Texas Fashion Collection at the University of North Texas, presents an exhibition that highlights the phenomenal legacy of 20th-century master fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga. The exhibition will present more than 70 of his creations, along with some 20 dresses and accessories by other famous designers whom this Spanish icon inspired and mentored such as Oscar de la Renta, Emanuel Ungaro, Hubert de Givenchy, and André Courrèges. The majority of designs featured in this exhibition draw from the vast holdings of one of the world's finest and yet least-known fashion collections: the Texas Fashion Collection in Denton, Texas. Its archive reveals the refined and cosmopolitan taste of some of Texas' most prominent individuals, both during and after Balenciaga's lifetime. This groundbreaking exhibition will introduce the public to the creative genius of Balenciaga and demonstrate the extraordinary mark he left on future generations of fellow haute couture designers and their strong connections with Texas. |
