Jared Sez At the Belmont In the Neighborhood

Romance is in the air… and February means the Belmont is Cupid Central...

Jared Sez

Jared

February is here and the Belmont is bustling. We had a busy Holiday and New Year season with a lot of great parties in the Cliff Café and at the BarBelmont. The January Markets kept us on our toes all through January… and now it's time to think about Valentines Day. Whew!

What better way to spend a February weekend with your loved one than by enjoying a stay in a Belmont Hotel Garden Suite, with a bottle of bubbly and a romantic dinner at the Cliff. We will be running a special menu February 14-17, in addition to our regular menu. And you can take advantage of the hotel's "The Kiss" Valentine's Special Package anytime throughout the month of February... in case the 14th just doesn't work out for you. (See special listed below.)

Also, The Cliff Café and BarBelmont will be rolling out new menus this month, so stop in for breakfast, lunch or dinner and check out some of our new offerings.

Happy Valentine's Day!

BELMONT HEALTH CLUB

People greatly overestimate what they can accomplish in a short amount of time. People greatly underestimate what they can accomplish in the long term.
–Brian Buffini

February Blues?
If you are experiencing some winter blues, you are not alone. A recent interviewee on NPR called the third Monday in January the emotionally lowest day of the year for many people. (Take that with skepticism lest it become a self-fulfilling prophecy.)

But it makes sense that many of us will experience some form of the blahs. The anticipation of the holidays is over, credit card bills may be flowing in, and the sun may not be shining. What can we do? Here is a menu of ideas to choose from:

  1. Get into the sunshine whenever possible. Just 10 minutes a day of sunshine can meet most of our Vitamin D requirements. But sunshine may not occur just when you want it to. If you see the sun, take a quick walk outside.
  2. Exercise. Even moderate exercise can greatly affect our mood.
  3. Plan something fun. Schedule something to look forward to.
  4. Work on eating well. After the holidays, we need to rebuild our nutrition.
  5. Do some small project that you can completely finish. Start with something minuscule that you can complete in minutes. Pick up your closet floor. Scrub a sink. Vacuum your car. Anything small.
  6. Work getting you down? Go in on a Saturday night or Sunday afternoon when absolutely no one is in the office. File. Clean your desk. Your only goal is to prepare for the next week's work. It seems counterintuitive, but sometimes you lift your own spirits by working an extra hour or two.
  7. Give. Give something. Anything. Help someone who needs a hand. Hold the door for the next person coming behind you. Look for a way to serve someone else. Nothing gets you outside of yourself quicker than looking for someone to help in way that cannot be repaid.
  8. Take some step, no matter how small, to improve your life. Just taking a step, any step, can break the stalemate.

Ella
by Jeffrey Hatcher
Through Feb 24, 2008

It's a life lived out loud in this exhilarating new musical about The First Lady of Song, Ella Fitzgerald. Powerful music and memories mingle in this rich, lively reimagining of her landmark 1967 concert in Nice, France. At times heartbreaking, but always uplifting, Ella features 14 of her greatest hits including "That Old Black Magic," and "A-Tisket, A-Tasket."

I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change!
By Joe DiPietro & Jimmy Roberts
Through Feb 24, 2008

It had a huge run in 2000 on the main stage, it moved into Theatre Too that fall and played there for an amazing three years! Since then this amazingly successful musical revue has returned annually for an encore run and manages to find new enthusiasts who pack the place to laugh and cheer.

Crimes Of The Heart
By Beth Henley
Feb 14 – Mar 16, 2008

In Hazlehurst, Mississippi the three Magrath sisters face troubles both grave and hilarious but in the end manage to escape the past to seize the future. "Such is Miss Henley's prodigious talent that she can serve us pain as though it were a piece of cake" – NY TIMES; "It has heart, wit and a surprisingly zany passion that carries it all before it" – NY Post
