August already??? Now that the sun is shining and it feels like summer!
Be sure to take advantage of the great weather… come sit poolside every other Tuesday night for our fantastic B-Reel movie series… or just enjoy the views from the BarBelmont patio where we’ve got daily specials and live music on Thursdays.
Aside from that, you can find me enjoying some of the great shows at House of Blues this August… like Perry Ferrell's Satellite Party. Before you hit the shows don't forget to stop for dinner at Amuse on South Lamar. I recommend the fried portabella sandwich.
After a long Friday or Saturday night of hanging out at the Belmont or House of Blues, I am known to have Saturday or Sunday brunch on the patio at Vickery Park on Henderson… and don't forget to bring the dog! So come out and enjoy the Belmont… and all Dallas has to offer!

B-Reel at the Belmont
B Reel Movies at The Belmont Hotel are horrifically fun. You've had a hectic day wandering the halls of the Dallas Convention Center. What better way to unwind than tapping your toes to the exploits of flesh-eating gold miners. Or watching a time traveler battle an army of medieval dead that terrorizes shoppers at a big box discount store. Forget about massages. The B Reel Movies at The Belmont Hotel will certainly make you forget your cares of this world.
The B movies, all free and shown every other Tuesday evening poolside through October, are the same campy low-budget, badly-acted films that sent shivers through the 1950s and 1960s, with some more recent cult classics thrown in.
Tuesdays in August are "Phantom Tuesdays" with Carnival of Souls on 08-07 and Transylvania 6-5000 on 08-21.
Bar opens at 7:30p... movie starts at sundown... bring a lawn chair or blanket... cash bar only.
"B-Reel Pajama Party" packages are available… http://www.belmontdallas.com/special.aspx

Vickery Park

Hours:
Mon-Thurs: 4pm-2am
Fri: 3pm-2am
Sat-Sun: 11am-2am
Weather-beaten wood and a welcoming dog friendly patio up front create a friendly vibe at this casual restaurant-bar on Henderson. Owners and staff are Deep Ellum refugees, including ex-Green Room chef Eric Najera. Menu veers from bar staples like hamburgers and fries (hand-cut and skin-on) to upscale items such as steamed mussels in a citrusy broth, and roast chicken with mashed potatoes. VP stays open until 2am nightly; after 11pm, the menu shifts to soft tacos. Excellent selection of beers on tap includes uncommon options such as Stella Artois.
Hit Vickery Park after all the other restaurants on Henderson close and you'll run into chefs and other restaurant industry-ites having a nightcap after their shifts. |

Chan Marshall stops time. She sits at a piano or lays her guitar across her lap, and whether its a noisy club overflowing with drunks or a coffee house full of laptoppers, Chan Marshall draws all the attention in the room and makes the world stop spinning. As Cat Power, Marshalls music seems to rise from nowhere, envelop the room, then vanish; listeners know theyve been hit by something but theyre not sure what. |

Mack & Mabel
July 19 through August 19 2007
a Broadway and London musical hit by composer JERRY HERMAN, book by MICHAEL STEWART
In the days of silent movies, director Mack Sennett's comic two-reelers made his discovery, Mabel Normand, America’s most adored comedienne. Composer Jerry Herman (Hello, Dolly; Mame; La Cage aux Folles) celebrates this pioneer film duo in his rollicking and romantic show with his trademark musical panache and show business dazzle.
